If you're having sleep problems, buy this book! September 1, 2010 Val I was having horrible sleeping issues with my 8 month old daughter when I bought this. We were up almost every 1-2 hours at night and then waking at 5am. I was so frustrated and tired I could barely think straight!! I bought this book, and read through it as quick as I could - started implementing his ideas immediately. I was putting my baby down too late and rushing to her at night with her every wimper....Well i can tell you, it was difficult at first to not go to her at all. But it has paid off tremendously. Both mommy and baby are happy, sleeping though the night for the first time. She sleeps straight till 7am. Sometimes she wakes up for a few minutes to softly cry, but then gets herself back to sleep right away with no assistance. Buy this book, and listen to his advice, he knows what he's talking about!
Good concepts, poor organization August 31, 2010 Ad After reading this book I feel as though I understand the need for babies sleep and some of the science behind it. BUT, the book is poorly organized. The way it reads it seems that some of the suggestions are contradictory. Some of the wording feels as though pages were lifted out of medical journals and inserted into the book - I don't want to read the studies, I want someone to explain them to me in simple, easy terms. Again, good concepts, but plan to read the book 2-3 times to place everything together.
seems okay August 21, 2010 Julie (Ohio) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this book because my 6 month old did not take naps.I haven't read very much---how do you read a book about helping your baby sleep if you have no time to read because your baby doesn't sleep? What I have read seems to make sense, the more the baby sleeps the calmer he/she will be and the easier it will be to get the baby to sleep. I haven't found anything offensive. There is a section about letting your baby cry, but the book doesn't seem to recommend this. It just gives letting the baby cry as a possible option depending on what each parents feels comfortable with.
Useful even for a 2 1/2 year old August 19, 2010 Sharon Pieloch (Portland, OR USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My 2 1/2 year old has been an odd sleeper almost since he was born. I tried various methods to get him to a more consistent sleep schedule, but nothing really worked. Finally I really, really read through this book. Now I understand better why he sleeps the way he does--and when to put him in bed for sleep. I also know what to do if he doesn't nap during the day.
The book itself is long and difficult to get through, especially if *you* aren't getting enough sleep. But it is still well worth the effort. My toddler will now go to sleep without a parent in the room, sleep through the night, and sometimes even take a nap--all without crying.
Even if you don't feel that you can use Dr. Weissbluth's methods for bedtime, this book gives excellent guidance on setting naptimes and bedtime. That alone is worth the effort of getting through the book.
Good advice, hard to read August 18, 2010 A. Finan (Chicago, IL) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this book when my daughter was about 6 weeks old, hoping to establish some healthy sleep habits. I found the info in the book very valuable, but very hard to comprehend due to the poor organization of the book. The chapters don't "flow" well and there is lots of flipping back and forth to look at graphs or lists in different parts of the book. I've read it front to back twice just to make sure I understood everything and didn't miss anything. Overall a good book but needs to be organized better.
