| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description This CD, Billy Taylor: The Music Keeps Us Young, showcases music legend and Grammy Award winner Billy Taylor, a pianist who has stood at the forefront of the Jazz world for almost half a century. Now at the peak of his powers and performing with his trio that includes Chip Jackson on bass and drummer Steve Johns, Taylor brings matchless grace and authority to his robust and inventive originals, as well as his interpretations of standards composed by John Coltrane, Freddie Hubbard, and Johnny Green, among others. His career is recognized with the utmost adoration and respect. Dr. Billy Taylor is one of only three Jazz musicians appointed to the National Council of the Arts and currently works as the Artistic Director for Jazz at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. He is a recipient of the National Medal of Arts, and is also known for the artist profiles he hosted as the Arts correspondent for CBS Sunday Morning. Founder of the famed Jazzmobile, Billy Taylor showcases both his musicality and intellectual curiosity on this impressive album. Billy Taylor is living proof that music does keep you young.

| Customer Reviews: The doctor is "in", and swinging as usual February 3, 2010 Eric C. Sedensky (Madison, AL, US) Billy Taylor has been one of the cornerstones of my jazz music collection since before I even decided I was a jazz music collector. His Billy Taylor Triois high on my rotating play list, and selections from it never fail to please when I'm having a party or poker game. So when somebody asked me why I didn't have more of his music and I couldn't supply a decent response to that, I up and bought this recording. And it would seem that even though this comes from a bit later in Dr. Taylor's career, he's still kept that simplicity of incisive jazz sound that really defines his piano playing. Whereas so many other pianists define their sound by imitation of others, Billy is still able to lead out his trio and come up with a fresh, clear, and memorable sound. Really, if you listen to this once, you'll be humming it for days after, because the embellishments that Taylor puts out there really tend to stick around. His backing musicians provide an easy, unsullied, unhurried swing that just never lets up, making the transition from song to song that much easier to absorb and enjoy. The highlight for me is getting to hear Billy play his original tune "What It Feels Like to Be Free", which is gospel-ly enough to provide an anchor for the rest of the recording, but bluesy enough to keep this a solid standard in the jazz pantheon. No true jazz fan will be unhappy adding this to his or her collection.
A Classic Collection November 27, 2008 JazzAficionada (Randolph,NJ) This is a wonderful collection of Billy Taylor classics played in his inimitable style! Dr. Taylor is a legendary performer and a national treasure!
Incredible! January 20, 2005 Mar-mar (Sacramento, CA USA) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
If you don't get to head swayin' and foot tappin' on this CDs most popular track "I Wish I Knew (What It Would Feel Like To Be Free), then you have no pulse. This recording is as hot as it gets. Listening to it is the definition of "Joy".
