It can be pulled by one animal or by several often in pairs. It was 1730 when the Pennsylvania German wagon builders invented the wagon to fit the surroundings landscape. These are built for transporting goods over long distances. The wagon had a long bed about 16 feet long, have a recognizable sloping bottom and lowest in the middle. It was loped this way to keep goods from shifting and sliding as it went up and down hills. The capacity of the wagons is about 3,500 pounds and 6 or 8 rods were placed over top for a white cloth to be stretched over to protect the goods from the weather. |
